ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the clinical effect of disk-up sinus reamer (DSR) in maxillary sinus floor elevation with maxillary sinus septum. Methods: Twenty-four patients were included between January 2019 to January 2020 in Department of Oral Implantology, The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University. There were 10 males and 14 females with the age of (39.3±11.7) years old (range 22-56 years). Pre-operative(T0) cone-beam CT (CBCT) was taken for measurement and analysis. All patients were divided into group E (easy situations, septum located anterior to the zygo-matic process), group M (moderate situations, septum located pos-terior to the zygo-matic process) and group D (difficult situations, sagittally oriented septum). The maxillary sinus floor was grafted through the crestal approach by DSR and implants were placed simultaneously. Permanent repair was performed 6-8 months after operation. All patients underwent CBCT before surgery, after surgery immediately (T1), 6 months after surgery(T2), 1 year after surgery(T3), 2 year after surgery(T4). The residual bone height (RBH) and the vertical bone height (VBH) were analyzed. The mucosal perforation rate, implant survival rate were counted. Results: All the 24 patients completed the Maxillary sinus lift surgery successfully and 24 implants were placed simultaneously. All patients had no headache, dizziness. The mucosal perforation rate was 0. The survival rate of implants during the healing period was 100%(24/24). The RBH was (5.81±2.56) mm pre-operation, the VBHT1, VBHT2, VBHT3 and VBHT4 were (11.82±1.09), (10.98±0.52), (10.66±0.44) and (10.40±0.33) mm, respectively. The differences between the groups by pairing test were statistically significant (F=187.70, P0.001), expect VBHT3 and VBHT4 (P=0.071). Bone resorption and remodeling mainly occurred 1 year after surgery. One patient developed peri-implantitis 18 months after surgery. Conclusions: With the RBH of implant site>2 mm and existence of maxillary sinus septum, using DSR for sinus floor elevation has a high success rate. It can obtain enough bone height and complete the simultaneous implantation to form a good osseointegration. The DSR is simple, safe and controllable, and can shorten the operation time.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To analyze the clinical characteristics, treatment and prognosis of Hashimoto's encephalopathy presenting with isolated cerebellar ataxia in children. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical features, laboratory tests, neuroelectrophysiological examination, imaging, treatment and outcomes of 13 patients with Hashimoto's encephalopathy presenting with isolated cerebellar ataxia, who were admitted to the Department of Pediatric Neurology of Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center from January 2016 to May 2021. Results: Among the 13 cases, 6 were males and 7 were females. The onset age was 2.6 (2.0,3.3) years, 9 children had precursor infection or vaccination before the first course of disease. All the 13 children had gait abnormalities or unsteady sitting, 10 had intentional tremor, 6 had dysarthria, 3 had body tremor, 2 had nystagmus, 3 had fatigue, 3 had hypotonia, 2 had vomiting and 1 had irritability. Thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) was 500.0 (298.9,587.2) kU/L and thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) was 621.9 (449.6,869.4) kU/L in 13 cases. Autoantibodies were positive in 9 cases, and cerebrospinal fluid leukocytosis was seen in 4 cases. Regarding electroencephalography result, 4 cases had background slowing and 1 case had occasional sharp waves. Among the 3 patients who had relapses, 1 had cerebellar atrophy shown on cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) during the recurrence. All the patients received intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and intensive methylprednisolone therapy during the first onset, followed by the disappearance of the symptoms, 1 patient had repeated episodes which was decreased after immunosuppressive treatment with Rituximab.Followed up for 25.0 (22.5,33.3) months after the last episode, 12 achieved complete remission and 1 had a wide base gait. Conclusions: Trunk ataxia is the common symptom of Hashimoto's encephalopathy presenting with isolated cerebellar ataxia in children.Children with cerebellar ataxia should be tested for TgAb and TPOAb to detect Hashimoto's encephalopathy, avoiding missed diagnosis and treatment delays; IVIG and intensive steroid therapy is effective, and immunosuppressive therapy for patients with multiple relapses could reduce the recurrence.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#The current study aims to explore precipitating and social risk factors for internet addiction (IA) in university undergraduate students, and to provide evidence for interventions and the early prevention of IA in different genders. @*Methods@#Four thousand eight hundred and fifty-eight college sophomores completed an online survey on their internet use-related behaviours and social risk factors. @*Results@#We found that more male (8.3%) than female students (5.4%) had moderate and severe IA. The main online activity in the moderate and severe IA groups was online gaming in males and online streaming in females. Roommates engaging in similar internetbased entertainment was a risk factor of IA only for males, while not being in a romantic relationship was a risk factor of IA for females only. Infatuation with the internet before college and adjustment problems for college life were shared risk factors for both genders in the mild and moderate IA groups. @*Conclusion@#IA was a common phenomenon in college students with shared and unique precipitating and social risk factors in males and females. The gender-sensitive risk factors for IA warranted earlier and individualized intervention and prevention strategies for IA in this population.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Although single port laparoscopic surgery has achieved good clinical results, many surgeons are discouraged by the difficulties of operation, conflict of instruments, lack of antagonistic traction, and straight-line perspective. Therefore, some surgeons have proposed a single incision plus one hole laparoscopic surgery (SILS+1) surgical method. This study explored the safety and feasibility of SILS+1 for radical resection of colorectal cancer. Methods: A descriptive cohort study was carried out. The clinical data, including the operation, pathology and recovery situation, of 178 patients with colorectal cancer undergoing SILS+1 at Department of General Surgery, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University from March 2018 to January 2019 were prospectively collected and retrospectively analyzed. Clavien-Dindo criteria was used for postoperative complication evaluation and visual analog scale was used for pain standard. Follow-up studies were conducted through outpatient service or telephone and the follow-up period was up to May 2019. Results: A total of 178 patients with colorectal cancer underwent SILS+1, including 111 male patients (62.4%) with an average age of 59 years. Eleven (6.2%) patients received added 1-3 operation ports during operation, and 1 patient was converted to open surgery due to ileocolic artery hemorrhage. The operative time was (135.2±42.3) minutes. The intraoperative blood loss was (34.6±35.5) ml. The number of harvested lymph nodes was 33.1±17.6. The distal margin was (4.7±17.8) cm. The proximal margin was (10.2±5.3) cm. Operation-related complications were observed in 16 patients (9.0%) within 30 days after the operation, of whom 6 had Clavien-Dindo III complications (3.4%). The postoperative pain scores were lower than 3. The average postoperative hospital stay was (5.6±2.6) days. Three patients (1.7%) returned to hospital within 30 days after operation due to intestinal obstruction and infection around stoma. The cosmetic evaluation of all the patients was basically satisfied. Conclusion: SILS+1 is safe and feasible in the treatment of colorectal cancer, and can reduce the postoperative pain.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To study the association of body fat ratio with precocious puberty in girls. Previous studies have shown that body mass index (BMI) is associated with the girls' age of puberty but have not revealed the association of body fat ratio with age of puberty.@*METHODS@#Based on the consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of central precocious puberty (CPP), 128 children with precocious puberty who were admitted to the hospital from July to August, 2017, were divided into a CPP group with 87 children and a peripheral precocious puberty (PPP) group with 41 children. A total of 51 girls without any puberty development signs were enrolled as the control group. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry was used to measure the body fat ratios of upper limbs, legs, trunk, android area, gynoid area, and the whole body. The association between body fat ratios and precocious puberty was analyzed with reference to age, BMI, BMI-Z score, bone age, ovarian volume, and hormone levels.@*RESULTS@#Compared with the control group, the CPP and PPP groups had significantly higher body fat ratios of upper limbs, legs, trunk, android area, gynoid area, and the whole body, legs/whole body fat ratio, and (upper limbs+legs)/trunk fat ratio (P0.05). For the girls with precocious puberty, the high body fat ratio group had significantly higher luteinizing hormone (LH) base value, luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LHRH)-stimulated LH peak value, and LH/follicle-stimulating hormone peak value than the low body fat ratio group (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, both the high body fat ratio and low body fat ratio groups had a significantly higher LH base value (P<0.05).@*CONCLUSIONS@#The increase in body fat may be a factor inducing precocious puberty in girls, but further studies are needed to determine the mechanism.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>In previous studies, we immunized mice with Ebola recombinant protein vaccine and gene vector vaccine. Both stimulated high levels of humoral immunity. In this work, we constructed a pseudovirus containing Ebola membrane proteins to verify whether the two immunization strategies can induce neutralizing antibodies in mice.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A pseudovirus containing an Ebola virus membrane protein based on the HIV-1 viral gene sequence was constructed and evaluated using a known neutralizing antibody. The titer of the neutralizing antibody in the sera of mice immunized with the recombinant protein and the gene vector vaccine was examined using a neutralization test.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Ebola pseudovirus was successfully prepared and applied for neutralizing antibody detection. Immunological experiments showed that recombinant protein GP-Fc and gene vaccine pVR-modGP-Fc had good immunogenicity. The titer of the bound antibody in the serum after 8 weeks of immunization in mice was more than 1:105, and the recombinant protein induced greater humoral immunity. The results of the neutralization test based on the Ebola pseudovirus system demonstrated that both vaccines induced production of protective antibodies, while the gene vaccine induced a higher titer of neutralizing antibodies.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>An Ebola pseudovirus detection system was successfully established and used to evaluate two Ebola vaccines. Both produced good immunogenicity. The findings lay the foundation for the development of new Ebola vaccines and screening for neutralizing monoclonal antibodies.</p>

ABSTRACT

Dehydrins are well associated with the abiotic stress tolerance of the plants, such as dehydration, salt stress and cold stress. They include a highly conserved lysine-rich motif called K-segment, which is believed to play a significant role in dehydrin function. The K-segment shows in vitro antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria like its full-length dehydrin protein. In this study, the structures of the K-segment from rice dehydrin have been investigated by CD spectroscopy, NMR and molecular dynamic simulation. The results reveal that the K-segment is disordered in aqueous solution, but adopts helical structure in mimetic membrane environment, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) micelles. The central region of K-segment forms an a-helix and exhibits amphipathic arrangement, where hydrophobic residues locate on one side and hydrophilic residues are on the other side. The amphipathic feature allows the helix region of the K-segment to insert into the SDS micelles, resulting in stable association with mimetic membrane. To realize the energy minimization, the hydrophobic side of the helix faces to the hydrophobic core of SDS micelles, and the hydrophilic side of the helix faces to the surface of micelles. The precise 3D structure and orientation information of the K-segment obtained in this work might provide new insights in understanding the structure-function relationship of dehydrins.

ABSTRACT

Objective To synthesize trifluoromethyl-substituted mono-carbonyl curcumin analogs and investigate their effects on the proliferation of human lung cancer cells A549 and NCI-H460. Methods Six mono-carbonyl curcumin analogs 1a-1f were synthesized via Aldol condensation using commercially available 2-trifluoromethyl benzadehyde and different ketones (actone, cyclopentanone, cyclohexanone, piperid-4-one, and 1-methylpiperid-4-one). MTT method was used to test the effect of 1a-1f on the proliferation of A549 and NCI-H460 cells. Results Compared with curcumin, most of the mono-carbonyl curcumin analogs 1a-1f exhibited anti-proliferation activity on the A549 cells. The values of IC50 were lower than that of curcumin (P<0.01), and 1a and 1f showed much better activities both on the A549 and NCI-H460 cells, with their IC50 values were much lower than that of curcumin (P<0.01).Among them, 1f showed better medicinal chemical properties, with the relative molecular mass less than 500, cLogP 5.25, and the polar surface area (PSA) 37.38, which was more better accorded with the Lipinski′s five rules. Conclusion Six mono-carbonyl curcumin analogs 1a-1f were synthesized, and 1f showed much better anti-proliferation activity on A549 and NCI-H460 cells.

ABSTRACT

The nervous system directly regulates immunity through neurotransmitter receptors expressed on immune cells to participate in host defense and body reparation. Expression of neurotransmitter receptors on blood cells provides important evidence for a direct functional link between the nervous and hematopoietic systems. Our previous studies showed that 5-hydroxytryptamine, as a monoamine neurotransmitter, plays an important role in regulating megakaryocytopoiesis. This review summarizes recent findings of the effect of monoamine neurotransmitter on megakaryocytopoiesis and platelet function, focusing on the receptor expression on hematopoietic stem cells, megakaryocytes/platelets and their functions in order to explore the intrinsic relation of nervous system and hematopoietic system. Based on the existing research results, we find that the monoamine neurotransmitter participates in regulation of megakaryocytopoiesis, and affects on aggregation and functions activation of platelets. Moreover, it has a close link with the specific regulatory factor of megakaryocytopoiesis-TPO. Thus those results also support the "brain-bone marrow-blood-axis" viewpoint of some researchers. At present, the study of the nervous system regulating hematopoiesis is still in its infancy, the exact mechanism remains to be further studied.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To observe the efficacy of ondansetron by intravenous injection at different time in preventing nausea and vomiting after pediatric strabismus surgery.METHODS: Totally 90 children aged 3 - 11y were randomly selected for pediatric strabismus surgery from June 2013 to August 2013 in our hospital. The ASA grade of all children were Ⅰ - II. Children were randomly divided into three groups with 30 cases each. Group A received intravenous drip of ondansetron 0. 1mg/kg before surgery. Group B received intravenous drip of ondansetron 0. 1mg/kg after surgery. Group C as control group was not given ondansetron. The number and severity of nausea and vomiting were observed within 24h after surgery. RESULTS: There were no statistical significance in patients' gender, weight, age, duration of anesthesia, ketamine dosage and vital signs intraoperative between the three groups ( P > 0. 05 ). The incidence rate of postoperative nausea and vomiting ( PONV) of group A and B were significantly lower than group C (P0. 05). CONCLUSION:Using ondansetron is effective and safe in preventing PONV before and at the end of the pediatric strabismus surgery, which can also improve safety and be lower cost. It is a worthy promoting antiemetic approach for eye surgery.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the application of the plantar horn shaped fasciocutaneous perforator flaps for the reconstruction of the defects on heel and fore plantar.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The proximal end of the plantar fasciocutaneous perforator flaps were at the edge of defects. The deep fascia was cut off at the both sides of flaps. The plantar fascia should be included into the flaps. Then the flaps were rotated to cover the defects, containing two or three perforators. If necessary, the original supplying vessels could be cut off to facilitate the advancement of flaps.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>From Jan. 2010 to Oct. 2012, 7 cases with plantar defects were treated with the horn shaped perforator flaps. The defects size ranged from 1.5 cm x 2.0 cm to 4.0 cm x5. 0 cm with the size of the flaps ranging from 7 cm x 3 cm to 13 cm x 7 cm. All the flaps survived completely with primary healing both on donor and recipient sites. The flap color, texture, function and appearance were satisfactory during the follow-up period of 3-24 months.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The plantar horn shaped perforator flap can reconstruct the defects at plantar weight-bearing area with the similar thick skin tissue, which facilitates the functional reconstruction. No skin graft is necessary for the defect at donor site.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the development and prognosis of the acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) associated with enterovirus 71 (EV71) infection through clinical follow-up study for clinical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features based on the research progress of virology and pathology.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>Sixteen children with HFMD associated with AFP in hospital from May 1, 2011 to August 31, 2011 were investigated and the patients received intensive rehabilitation training. The 16 cases were divided into two groups (the recovery or the sequela) by if the muscle strength recovered to level 4 after intensive rehabilitation. The MRI findings of 15 children were analyzed and among them, 6 patients were reexamined after one month. The clinical markers were compared between groups including course of disease, WBC, WBC in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), ventilator support, therapy, the worst muscle strength, the initial tendon reflex, the muscle atrophy, and multi-limb paralysis. The data were analyzed by t test and χ2 test with SPSS10.0.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>All the 16 children were infected with enterovirus 71 (EV71). The myodynamia of 7 children were level 0, 4 children had serious upper limbs paralysis. The neck muscle in 3 cases and the brain stem motor ruckus in 4 cases were involved. The ankle clonus of non-completely paralyzed limbs in 14 cases occurred during rehabilitation. Eight children had the better prognosis, the other 8 children had sequela. 0 level muscle strength (0 case vs. 7 cases, χ2=12.4), the initial tendon reflex (2 cases vs. 8 cases, χ2=9.6), obvious muscle atrophy (0 case vs. 8 cases, χ2=16), were significantly different in the children with the recovery when compared to the sequela (P<0.01). The severe upper limbs paralysis had the worse prognosis than the severe lower limbs paralysis. MR imaging showed signs of spinal nerve root inflammation and the bilateral hyperintense lesions, symmetrical in the posterior portions of the medulla, pons, and asymmetrical in the ventral horns of cervical spinal cord. Signal enhancement occurred only in the early MRI examination.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>In the evolution of AFP due to EV71 infection, the upper motor neuron damage is common, the prognosis is related with the severity of early paralysis and neuron damage. MR imaging is helpful to understand the pathological mechanism of AFP.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the association of alleles and genotype frequencies of rs4402960 in insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2) gene with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Han population of Inner Mongolia region. Methods Allele-specific polymerase chain reaction was used to genotype the rs4402960 polymorphism of IGF2BP2 in 360 Han population living in the Inner Mongolia region, including 166 patients with T2DM (T2DM group) and 194 normal controls (NC group). Results The frequencies of T allele, TT and GT genotype of rs4402960 in T2DM group were 41. 6%, 12. 1% and 59. 0%, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in the NC group (10. 6%,3. 6% and 13. 9%, all P<0. 05). The GG genotype frequency was 28. 9% in T2 DM group, being significantly lower than that in the NC group (82. 5%, P<0. 05). Carrying T allele was a risk factor of T2DM (OR = 6. 02, 95%CI = 4. 075-8. 895). Conclusion T allele of rs4402960 polymorphism in IGF2BP2 gene might be a risk factor of T2DM, and G/T polymorphism is associated with T2DM. IGF2BP2 rs4402960 might be a susceptible gene of T2DM in Han population living in Inner Mongolia region.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To establish the quality standards of the herbs of Peganum harmala.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>According to the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2010 version, volume 1) and its appendix method, the water, total ash, acid insoluble ash, water-soluble extractives, and heavy metal were analyzed for herbs of P. harmala. TLC method was used to separate harmaline, harmine and vasicine from the herb samples by mixture of ethyl acetate-methanol-ammonia (10: 1.5: 0.5) as a developing solvent on high performance silica gel precoated plate (HSGF254) and to identify them inspected under UV 366 nm, visualized by spraying with both Dragendorff reagent, and by bioautographic assay. In the HPLC method, vasicine was separated on a C18 (4.6 mm x 250 mm, 5 microm) column with metnanol-0.1% trifluoroacetic acid (15:85) as the mobile phase and detected at at 280 nm.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>In the TLC procedures, 254 nm fluorescent and bioautographic assay for the detection of acetylcholinesterase inhibitor can be used for the qualitative identification of the active ingredients. For the HPLC quantitation method, the calibration curve of vasicine displayed ideal linearity over the range of 0.7923-792.3 mg x L(-1) with the regression equation of Y = 18,227X - 24.879 (r = 0.9999). The average recovery of vasicine was 101.6% with a RSD of 1.9%. The RSD values of intra-day and inter-day precision were less than 2%. The content of vasicine in 10 batches of herbs of P. harmala fluctuates between 0.23% and 1.47%.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The results indicated that the limit of vasicine was not lower than 0.6%, and the water, total ash, acid insoluble ash, and water-soluble extractives were not more than 10.0%, 20.0%, 1.7%, and 30.0%, respectively. The heavy metal of plumbum, cadmium, arsenic, mercury, and copper were not more than 5, 3, 2, 2, and 20 mg x kg(-1), respectively. The qualitative and quantitative method established was suitable for the quality evaluation and assessment of herbs of P. harmala.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the clinical effect of 1% lauromacrogol for the treatment of facial refractory hemangioma and vascular malformation.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>From Sept 2009 to Nov 2011, 55 patients (20 male, 35 female, 1 month to 30 years) with different types of facial hemangiorwa and vascular malformation about 1.0 cm x (0. 5-5.0) cm x 10.0 cm in size, underwent 1% lauromacrogol intratumor injection therapy. Generally, the injection dose, concentration, frequency were determined by the age of the patients, the volume and depth of the lesion. The dose was limited to 10 mg every time. The injection interval is 14 weeks.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>After followed up for 3-16 months, 41 cases were cured, 9 cases were greatly improved, and 5 were partially improved. Skin necrosis happened in only 2 cases.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Lauromacrogol is safe, simple and effective as a sderosing agent for the treatment of facial refractory hemangioma and vascular malformation. It provides a new and alternative way for the treatment of facial refractory hemangioma and vascular malformation.</p>
